Tahoe SAFE Alliance is thrilled to once again participate in the V-Day Worldwide Campaign and offer a production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. Last year, we produced two sold-out performances at the Truckee Performing Arts Center reaching more than 500 individuals. We are excited to bring The Vagina Monologues to North Lake Tahoe on April 26th & 27th. Tahoe SAFE Alliance believes that The Vagina Monologues has the ability to change lives and is an important vehicle to empower and emphasize self-confidence to women and young girls in our community.
About V-Day
The V-DAY Campaign is celebrating its 15th Anniversary. It was started in 1998 as a movement with one goal: to end violence against women and girls. This is still true today!
For the last 15 years, V-Day has become a cultural phenomenon and is celebrated in thousands of venues in over 140 countries in an effort to create dialogue and shatter taboo around violence against women and girls. The Vagina Monologues has remained at the center of this organizations campaign to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
As an anti-violence agency, Tahoe SAFE Alliance supports the V-Day campaign. Domestic violence and sexual assault agencies like ours put on productions of The Vagina Monologues as a vehicle to raise awareness and to empower women and society at large. It provides a voice for individuals to open up about sexuality and the role it plays in women’s empowerment.
Through our benefit production of The Vagina Monologues, we are raising awareness locally for the need to end violence, as well as educating and empowering individuals. We are also supporting the V-Day Campaign and its global efforts by donating 10 percent of net profits from the performances. V-Day Org was instrumental in funding women shelters in Egypt and Iraq; sponsoring workshops for women in Afghanistan; and convened the “Confronting Violence” conference of South Asian women leaders.
